YouTube ads reporting in Grower puts your video campaigns on the same leaderboard as every other channel: ROAS, conversions, cost, CPA, impressions and CTR. YouTube ads are bought and measured in Google Ads, and Grower lists YouTube as its own connection, so video gets its own line inside one de-duplicated conversion count.

YouTube ads are bought through Google Ads

YouTube ads are set up and reported in Google Ads. Google describes Video campaigns as a way to "reach and engage with your audience on YouTube, Google TV, and through Google video partners", created in your Google Ads account with an objective such as sales, leads, website traffic, or YouTube reach, views and engagements (Create a Video campaign).

YouTube formats also run in Demand Gen and Performance Max campaigns, and the video itself must be hosted on YouTube, according to Google's video ad formats guide. In Grower, YouTube and Google Ads are two separate entries among the 10 paid connections on the Streamline integrations page.

What you get when you connect YouTube to Grower

  • Channels leaderboard: YouTube ranked next to your other channels by ROAS, conversions, cost, CPA, impressions and CTR.
  • One conversion count: the attribution engine de-duplicates conversions from every channel and app into one unified count, then credits each touchpoint with last click, first click, linear, time decay, position-based (40/20/40) or a custom model.
  • AI analyses: deep, conversion, budget, content or audience analysis on any campaign, each with an AI summary and suggested actions.
  • Recommendations you approve: weekly recommendations from the recommendation engine, with evidence and a risk label. Approve one and Grower pushes it to the channel for you.
  • Budgets against live spend: budgets by month, quarter, year or campaign group, compared with live spend from connected channels.
  • AskGrower: ask for a YouTube report in plain words. The agent asks before it spends credits or touches anything live.

How YouTube ads reporting works in Google Ads

Google's YouTube ads and view metrics page defines the core video metrics:

MetricWhat Google counts
ImpressionsEach time the ad is shown, for example the start of an in-stream ad
TrueView viewsA longer watch: for skippable in-stream ads, 30 seconds (or the whole ad if shorter) or an interaction
View rateTrueView views divided by impressions
Earned actionsUnpaid views, likes, subscribers, playlist additions and shares within 7 days of an ad view, on linked channels

As of October 2025, the "Views" metric is called "TrueView views" in Google Ads, which Google says does not change billing. Earned actions need your YouTube channel linked to your Google Ads account.

YouTube conversion windows

Google Ads credits YouTube with conversions in three ways. A click-through conversion window defaults to 30 days and a view-through window to 1 day (About conversion windows). An engaged-view conversion counts when someone watches at least 10 seconds of a skippable in-stream ad, or 5 seconds of an in-feed or Shorts ad, and converts later without clicking. Its default window is 3 days for web conversions and 1 day for Video action, Demand Gen and Performance Max (About engaged-view conversions).

Why YouTube numbers differ from GA4 and other platforms

  • Views without clicks. Engaged-view and view-through conversions credit YouTube even when nobody clicked, while a tool that only sees clicks and sessions credits the same sale to whichever channel brought the visit.
  • Different dates. Google Ads reports a conversion on the date of the click, while Analytics records it on the date the action happened (Google Ads Help).
  • Different view counts. Google notes views can differ between Google Ads, YouTube Analytics and the public watch page because of data freshness, spam checks and ad eligibility.

Every platform also counts the sales it can see, so a buyer who watched a YouTube ad and later clicked a social ad can appear in both totals. Grower de-duplicates conversions into one count and applies one model across channels. Our attribution models guide shows how each model splits one sale, and the marketing analytics platform checklist covers what to ask of a reporting tool.

Regional note: consent in the UK

Google's EU user consent policy applies to end users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland. It requires legally valid consent for cookies or local storage where legally required, and for personal data used to personalize ads. For how UK GDPR and Saudi Arabia's PDPL treat marketing consent, see our PDPL vs UK GDPR guide.

Frequently asked questions

Are YouTube ads managed in Google Ads?

Yes. You create YouTube ads in your Google Ads account through Video campaigns, and YouTube formats also run in Demand Gen and Performance Max. The video must be hosted on YouTube. Google Ads is where YouTube views, engaged-view conversions and costs are reported, and where conversion windows are set.

What is an engaged-view conversion on YouTube?

It is a conversion that follows a meaningful watch instead of a click: at least 10 seconds of a skippable in-stream ad, or 5 seconds of an in-feed or Shorts ad. By default Google counts it within 3 days for web conversions, and within 1 day for Demand Gen and Performance Max.

Why are YouTube views different in Google Ads and YouTube Analytics?

Google says view counts can differ between Google Ads, YouTube Analytics and the public watch page because of data freshness, spam thresholds and which ads count toward public views. Google states that the metrics reported in Google Ads are accurate, so use them for paid performance.

Does Grower treat YouTube separately from Google Ads?

Yes. Grower lists YouTube and Google Ads as two separate connections among its 10 paid connections. Both sit on the same channels leaderboard and feed the same de-duplicated conversion count, so you can compare video with search under one attribution model instead of reading two sets of platform totals.
